RE: Question on hitch weight

My buddy has a Sunset Trail RV and it is definately hitch heavy. You can tell by looking at the placement of the axles that it will be because for a trailer about the same length as mine, his rear axles are much further back. You might need to be concerned with the hitch weight due to lack of payload for your F150 ( I don't know what your payload numbers look like). As long as your truck has the payload to hold the hitch weight plus whatever you put inside the truck, hitch weight doesn't have much effect on towing experience. Some say a heavier hitch weight will give you a smoother ride in the truck and less sway overall with the right weight distribution hitch set up... As said above, check both trailers Gross weight capacity. The Sunset Trail trailer might be giving you the highest possible hitch weight while the Surveyer might be giving you dry hitch weight (which will go up when loaded).

RE: Stupid Tourist Questions

I used to work for a city swimming pool as a lifeguard once upon a time and we had a list of "interesting" questions that were asked at one point or another... How deep is the 12 Foot? How much is a 50 cent drink? Do you drain the pool every night and fill it up again each morning (our pool was 50 yards long and 25 yards wide with over a million gallons of water in it)? You get the idea...

RE: Please settle an argument - map of US

and bring home one ten pound rock from that state.:W (See Lucys Long Long Trailer movie for more information) Bob That's where my wife got that/ I had to upgrade to a F350 before we made our 11 state "Ohio to Yellowstone" trip. and the rocks we picked up were a LOT more than 10# each!

RE: Please settle an argument - map of US

Right now I have the states on my map that my daughter has been in. We have camped in almost all of them. My reasoning is that I am trying to show her the places she has visited while we were on vacation. The most notable exception is Florida. That was a Disneyland trip without the camper but she was there... The bottom line, there are no rules. Or better yet, you get to make your own rules. As long as you know why the states are colored and you explain why to everyone else that should be good enough to settle an argument.

RE: Sunset Trail by Crossroads? Any input?

My buddy got one that has double slides in the back and one super slide. He pulls it with his 2500 suburban and has had to tweek his equalizer hitch to work on sway. It isn't as steady as his 28 foot airstream was but what would be? He is dealing with a water heater issue right now and has had a couple of tears to his linolium due to screws tearing it under the slideout...

Cyclone pin weights?

Can anyone give me some real world pin weights for any of the Cyclone Toy Haulers? We are looking at the 3950 with its advertised 3,295# pin weight but want to know what it's like in the real world. I would like to compare any of the other Cyclones to see how they compare with their listed spec's...

RE: Diesel vs gas

Last summer we towed our 8,000# trailer with a gas engine pickup truck from central Ohio to Maine and back...this summer we towed the same trailer from here to Yellowstone NP and back. For US we saved money on fuel (diesel got better mileage that more than offset the extra price of diesel fuel), had a much more stable platform for towing (went from a 1/2 ton PU to a 1 ton...no brainer here), never touched my brakes going down mountains due to the engine brake on the diesel. For US, the diesel is a hands down winner...and even non towing, its mileage isnt that much worse than the gas engine pickup...

RE: 30 amp trailer at 50 amp site

We actually just ran into a 50 amp only site. We kinda. We were at the Estes Park KOA outside the Rocky Mountain National Park and the post we were told to hook into had a 50, 40 and 20 amp service. The kicker was that the site next to us was using the 30 amp outlet so we had to use the 50...with an adapter. The sites were really tight and my guess is this is how they created 2 sites where there used to be only one.... The adapter worked fine....

RE: side by side hookups

Everyone is right...Side by side could mean that you will be awning to awning with someone or it could mean that you will be back to back with someone. Awning to awning allows you to buddy camp with someone and not have to run around one of the campers to get inside, back to back allows you to have a yard twice as big since there is no room between you and the person behind you. I have seen both setups so you would have to call the specific campground to see what their interpretation is of this idea.

RE: cooking at primitive camp sites

We do foil packet dinners almost everytime we camp. A layer of onion, a hamburger on top of that and potatoes and carrots on top of that sealed up in a foil packet. Throw them on/in the fire, turn after a while and they will be done in no time. Getting them back out of the fire is the hard part...lol.

RE: anyone tow with a Nissan Titan? need help!

We used to tow our Rockwood 8318SS with an 05 Titan CC LE. We averaged around 8mpg towing in 4th with tow/haul button on.

RE: Walking into a dealership...........

Depending on their tow vehicle the brake controller could either be VERY easy or not so much. If their tow vehicle is plug and play ready that is an easy do it yourself installation...I vote for a prodigy brake controller. As far as the hitch, I had the dealer do it because I was picking up my trailer in January. I had no interest in figuring out and putting together an Equal-i-zer hitch outside in January since I had no heated garage to work in...

RE: Young Beginner

I think that you are asking the right questions. First, would you go camping by yourself? If so then get what you want and have fun. Do you have other hobbies that you could combine while you are camping like fishing, geocaching, hiking, mountain biking, etc? If not, then you need to see who might go with you when you do go...start asking friends if they would go with you and see who says yes. While you have money at the moment, do you have a steady income? You will need it to pay for the extra gas, campsite fees, camper license plates, upkeep of the camper, and all of the extra stuff you are going to buy to take with you. Camping alone is a much different animal than having someone with you that wants to do it too. Would I do it...probably. Would I have as much fun camping alone compared to taking someone with me...nope. But that is just me.

RE: Niagra Falls

Four Mile Creek State Park is beautiful on the US side...your campground parking pass gets you free parking at the State Park parking lot at the falls and the road is a straight shot there. Go to the AAA site to see the the most current info about border crossing...be careful what you take with you.

RE: Longer shank for Equalizer

It wouldnt change the tongue weight. Think of the shank as part of the truck and not the trailer. If you extended your trailer tongue, then it would. The bad thing about the EQ shanks is that they are darn near as expensive as the complete hitch. Another option would be to see if you could get a hitch for the front of your Expedition and put the bike rack there. But would it offload some of the weight being transfered to the front wheels? By moving the ball of the hitch further from the back wheels of the tow vehicle wouldn't that system now act as a lever? This is causing me to think wayyy too much for a Friday. Go with the front hitch and a bike rack up there and your problems are solved.
